WOW This looks like Christmas...but we know it's not...it's LOVE FOR OUR MARINES!!!

My words can't express the thankfulness that is in my heart for each and everyone of you.

Hey Marines, this is a good post to ask this question on. What would you like to receive in care-packages that you're not getting. I'll start it off with a few items a soldier said his troops could really use....

Good Fire Retardant Gloves
- Brands ?

Used Dental Teeth Cleaning tools to clean weapons
(this gets sand out where wire-brushes can't get to.

Safety Glasses and Safety Sunglasses - Brands ?

Please share with us what the Fearless 1st Marines need or would like to receive.

What a heartwarming site!! MAN !!! Makes ya' wanna' go Shopping Right NOW !!!
Humbled Infidel that's a good question. And those are good items you mentioned too, although some are kind of on the pricey side. I think the best way is to adopt a specific Marine/sailor/soldier and tailor your care package to his needs. Some may need better fire retardant gloves than others. We all do have the standard issue, but keep in mind not all conduct rigorous missions, and not all weapons endure the relentless desert sands. There are many unique jobs carried out by the Marines within the Regiment. Some require those items more than others, and some don't require those items at all. It all depends on who you're sending your care package to.

The best advice that I can give for a standard care package is provide compact items such as snack-sized goods (breakfast bars, chips, crackers, peanuts), things that can easily be stowed away and can stuff in pocket on the go. I would also say the same for toiletries (shampoo, soaps, toothepaste, toothebrushes, sunblock, asprin). Another suggestion would be current magazines (Time, Maxim, National Geographic, Car and Driver, Sports Illustrated..).

Although, these may not be personal items. They do go a long away. I'm sure there's a lot out there that already know this since they've had five years to perfect it. But at least it's a general idea. If you have any other questions, just let me know. I am more than happy to help.

Great post! Not often the supporters get to see the boxes being opened! I did a quick search over at www.anysoldier.com for Marines from RCT-1, and came up with 5 hits, one of whom writes stories here. Guess I'll be sending some stuff to McGinnis soon.....any special requests???!!

Also, a great site to have gun cleaning kits shipped to the troops (free or make a donation) http://projectboresnake.org/

Wonderful post to inspire us to do what we can for those of you giving us your all. God bless each and every one of you.

This is a GREAT IDEA , just don't forget the men/women who come home to the V.A. Hospitals we need more people to do what I do on Memorial Day taking gift boxes to the young (and old) Veterans in the hospitals .
That's a great reminder Joez...Thanks
Love the pics! It's great to see that you all are getting such support, and you deserve every bit :-) I love the looks on every Marine's face ... Smiles are wonderful!!

I am looking into starting some collection centers for care packages, and want to know exactly what is meant or needed by dental cleaning tools. Floss, floss picks? I have never cleaned a weapon, and really have no idea what is done. And are wrap around type sunglasses better than standard clear goggles? Thanx, ;D
The dental cleaning tools I'm talking about are ones that Dentist use to clean our teeth with. And I guess they throw them away after so many uses instead of sharpening them.

There were several different brands of safety glasses that were mentioned. I'll find out those names and get that info back to you.

That's a great idea about the collection centers for care packages.

Also a need is fire retardant gloves. But like the Marines mentioned above, since those items are pricey it would be good to find out who needs those items so they're not wasted on someone that has no need for them.
