MAIL CALL!
CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq (June 10, 2008) – For those who just couldn’t express their support through the words “I support the troops”; who have made the extra effort in showing their gratitude in a more tangible way; care packages have become the embodiment of “Thank you for your service” for Americans all over. The sight of red, white and blue boxes, with the words ‘priority mail’ printed across it, is an instant morale boost. Every week, Regimental Combat Team 1 receives dozens upon dozens of care packages, which are distributed among the Marines and sailors. Here we’ve added a few pictures of Marines receiving their ‘morale in a box’, giving you the chance to see the response and results of your hard work, time and care that is happening every day.

My words can't express the thankfulness that is in my heart for each and everyone of you.
Hey Marines, this is a good post to ask this question on. What would you like to receive in care-packages that you're not getting. I'll start it off with a few items a soldier said his troops could really use....
Good Fire Retardant Gloves - Brands ?
Used Dental Teeth Cleaning tools to clean weapons (this gets sand out where wire-brushes can't get to.
Safety Glasses and Safety Sunglasses - Brands ?
Please share with us what the Fearless 1st Marines need or would like to receive.
The best advice that I can give for a standard care package is provide compact items such as snack-sized goods (breakfast bars, chips, crackers, peanuts), things that can easily be stowed away and can stuff in pocket on the go. I would also say the same for toiletries (shampoo, soaps, toothepaste, toothebrushes, sunblock, asprin). Another suggestion would be current magazines (Time, Maxim, National Geographic, Car and Driver, Sports Illustrated..).
Although, these may not be personal items. They do go a long away. I'm sure there's a lot out there that already know this since they've had five years to perfect it. But at least it's a general idea. If you have any other questions, just let me know. I am more than happy to help.
Great post! Not often the supporters get to see the boxes being opened! I did a quick search over at www.anysoldier.com for Marines from RCT-1, and came up with 5 hits, one of whom writes stories here. Guess I'll be sending some stuff to McGinnis soon.....any special requests???!!

Also, a great site to have gun cleaning kits shipped to the troops (free or make a donation) http://projectboresnake.org/

There were several different brands of safety glasses that were mentioned. I'll find out those names and get that info back to you.
That's a great idea about the collection centers for care packages.
Also a need is fire retardant gloves. But like the Marines mentioned above, since those items are pricey it would be good to find out who needs those items so they're not wasted on someone that has no need for them.
